The Piccola Accademia degli Specchi ("Little Academy of Mirrors") was founded around the end of the year 2000 in Rome, Italy and it is specialized in the performance of contemporary classical music, with particular attention to the so-called minimalist and post-minimalist experiences. The founder members are: Alessandra Amorino (flute/piccolo), Assunta Cavallari (piano), Donato Cedrone (cello), Claudia Di Pietro (alto/soprano saxophone), Valerio Marchitelli (violin), Giovanni Rosati (piano, musical direction) and Matteo Sommacal (arrangements, artistic direction). On many occasions the ensemble has collaborated with other musicians, increasing or modifying its line-up. The ensemble's repertoire includes many composers who were or have been active for the last thirty years, like Steve Reich, Morton Feldman, Louis Andriessen, Erkki-Sven Tüür, Michael Nyman, Wim Mertens, Philip Glass, Yann Tiersen, Graham Fitkin, Karl Jenkins, Terry Riley, John Cage, György Ligeti, Simon Jeffes and William Susman. The Piccola Accademia degli Specchi's project has also the aim of diffusing the music of living Italian composers like Giovanni Sollima, F. Di Fiore, Matteo Sommacal, F. A. Mirenzi, Ludovico Einaudi, M. B. Panitti and Paolo Carlomè.
