Life Philip Van Wichel began his career as a musician, as well as other members of his family, in Brussels "Musicians Guild Sint Job." From 1631 to 1637 he was a cornetto at the Church of Saint-Goriks. Thereafter, until his death, he was instrumentalist, violinist in the court orchestra in Brussels, where also appeared numerous Italian musicians. For this period he is noted in the payroll of the court, with a salary of 245 florins. As a member of the court orchestra, van Michel worked under music directors such as Johann Caspar Kerll. In the meantime, he has performed several times as extraordinarius, in the personal chamber music of the governor of the Spanish Netherlands, Leopold Wilhelm of Austria.
