Paolo Cavalieri was a 16th Century Italian composer. He was born in Bologna in 1559 or 1560,was cantor in the basilica of S. Petronio from 1574. In 1582 he moved to Bologna Cathedral, possibly as maestro di cappella, where he remained until his death on February 3, 1613. His "Il primo Libro de Madrigali I à Cinque voci, nouamente composti" was published in Bologna in 1584. Some of his psalms and motets are found in three manuscript collections owned by the Liceo Musicale di Bologna.
