Orazio Caccini (born 1548) was an Italian composer, composer of polyphonic music, he obtained the position of Chapel Master in Rome. Son of Michelangelo Caccini, carpenter and timber merchant. Major among his brothers Giulio Caccini and Giovanni Caccini . Orazio Caccini was baptized in Rome in the basilica of San Giovanni Battista dei Fiorentini on February 19, 1548. His father moved from Montopoli in Val d'Arno , his town of origin in the Florentine territory at the time, to Tivoli . Orazio Caccini embarked on a career as a musician. In February 1577 he assumed the position of Chapel Master in the Basilica of Santa Maria Maggiore in Rome, succeeding personalities of great importance such as Adrian Valent ,Giovanni Pierluigi from Palestrina , Giovanni Maria Nanino and Ippolito Tartaglino . He gave his place to the French Nicolò Pervé in August 1578. Around 1580 he spent a long period in Northern Italy where he composed his works. Unknown is the date of his death. On 15 July 1585 Caccini published his first and only work Madrigali et canzonette for five voices [1] , a collection of scores which contained twenty-one pieces, the first six of which were incomplete. The collection is dedicated to Don Ferrando (Ferrante) Gonzaga prince of Malfetta ( Molfetta ). The collection was composed around 1580 presumably in Northern Italy, as shown by both the dedication signed in Venice and the print by the Venetian associates Ricciardo Amadino and Giacomo Vincenti .
