Operación Triunfo 2009 is the seventh edition of the television show Operación Triunfo in Spain and the fourth edition broadcasted by Telecinco. The show began on April 29, 2009, with a grand opening concert by several previous contestants (Virginia Maestro, Lorena, Sandra Polop, Sergio Rivero) and ended on July 21, 2009. The winner was Mario Álvarez. Despite of its promotion and many followers, it was the least-watched edition of the program, taking the rating down in the semifinal with a 15.6% share. Also, due to poor rating, the show was aired with only 13 galas. Online casting was used as part of the audition process, whereby applicants could upload their videos and then the most votes as the rest of those in the web, if considered to have good talent for singing, were given the opportunity to attend the casting. Patricia Navarro, Silvia Parejo and Cristina Rueda were chosen through online casting. Contestants: 01. Mario Álvarez (born November 19, 1985, Oviedo, Asturias) 02.
