Artist
No Pilots No Demos consists of Dan Adam, Mark Henderson and Matt Studivan. They play keyboards, laptop, and guitar respectively and they all sing. The current, and indefinitely permanent lineup was formed in June 2006 after they decided to stop publishing their performance 'zine, OUtlET after publishing consistently every two weeks for over two years. The Story Behind the Name The ties between OUtlET and NPND are important - No Pilots No Demos was first an untitled article submitted to OUtlET by Kristy Murnane under the pseudonym Alice. The article was about hipsters in and the general artistic saturation of New York. It needed a title so Studivan suggested "No Pilots, No Demos" and the name was tucked away until later that year. Previous Incarnations Dan Adam and Mark Henderson were both students of UMass Lowell's Music Performance program, and Studivan was an Emerson Acting Major. They worked together on OUtlET and through that met several people including Ben Burns, Mike Dailey, Heather Noecker, Jeff Lail and Rich Douglas. This group of people decided to start performing at coffeehouse gigs and open mics at places like The Java Hut in Worcester, MA and Brew'd Awakening in Lowell, MA under the moniker "No Pilots No Demos" They performed a few times but the project eventually fizzled out in light of other, disparate opportunities for the individual members. Adam, Henderson and Studivan reformed later and took the name with them. Equipment Used Adam - Fender Rhodes, Espy A
