Santa Cruz, CA based quartet Mountain Animal Hospital's founding members Chris Holcomb, Jeff Carroll and Nick Overhauser began playing music together in the summer of 2005. In the spring of 2007, Cameron Harskamp was recruited as lead singer; also lending his talents on synth, guitar and drums. Shortly after the addition of Harskamp, the band spent seven months piecing together a full-length record. The debut album entitled "Startled by Deer" was released on Santa Cruz's Loves In Heat Records on April 19th, 2008. Drawing from a wide range of influences, the band has formed a unique blend of progressive rock that finds a tasteful balance between the indie and psych movements.
