Born in 2008, Morseville Bridge is a young, yet enigmatic group of multifaceted musicians. The triptych of members include Ryan Gregory, Thomas Hartwell and Mark Perez, long-time friends who met in highschool and emerged from various other Flint, Michigan musical projects to become Morseville Bridge. They named the group after an abandoned bridge in Montrose, Michigan, where the three would skip school, hang out and jam. Their creative and ambidextrous approach to instrumentation (Ryan was previously a drummer, Mark a singer, in respective pre-MB projects) is precisely what gives them such an original sound. Morseville blend bluesy organic guitar slides with darker experimental instrumentation to create catchy pop-rock riffs that ensure their songs remain etched in your memory. Singer and lead guitarist Ryan Gregory captivates with a voice that is at once misanthropic and cheerful; his lyrics intersperse childhood nostalgia with social reflections; he is fascinated with contradictions and juxtapositions. Drummer/trumpet player Thomas Hartwell beats time on an unorthodox modified drum kit while simultaneously adding texture and rhythm- playing tambourine with his feet. Mark Perez plays bass (here electric, there acoustic), timbale drums, and sings. Morseville Bridge set themselves apart with their thoughtful and unusual approach to the band, from start to finish.
