Monk & Canatella was one of the first trip hop acts. It was formed by Simon Russell and Jim Johnston. They've worked with bands like Portishead and Tricky. Portishead wrote a song titled "A Tribute to Monk & Canatella" with samples from the Monk & Canatella song "Apology". Their sound was not much like the aforementioned artists, though, as they had a lot more of a rock vibe to them.
