The Mongo Clikke (MC) was a collective of Hamburg-based hip hop artists which existed from 1997 to 2000. The artists mainly released their records, such as the "Hamburg City Heftig"-tapes, via Eimsbush Entertainment. The group's maybe most famed track, including the bulk of its members, is K2/K-Zwo, featured on the B-side of Absolute Beginner's single Füchse. The collective's name derives from negatively connoted term Mongo (German pejorative name for individuals suffering from trisomy 21) and an altered spelling of the word clique. The Mongo Clikke wasn't only a purely musical-based project but rather a band of 15 friends who also did grafitti and went skateboarding together in their spare time. The members frequently, e.g. in video clips, wore homemade printed t-shirts and pullovers with large-scaled Mongo-Clikke-Prints, which were not designed as merchandise but only for members of the group. However, with growing popularity, unlicensed versions were sold, expecially in small stores and by street vendors. In 2002 the collective split. It is rumored that the reason was internal quarrel; member Das Bo was said to have burned a Mongo-Clikke-pullover or t-shirt during a concert. According to members of Eimsbush Entertainment (Dendemann), the group dissolved because to many people "simply joined". However, many members of the Mongo Clikke kept working together after the split regularly. User-contributed text is available under the Creative Commons By-SA License; additional
