Artist
Miriam Mandipira is an established singer of jazz, soul, gospel and blues. The Zimbabwe-born musician is crowned 'Queen of the Blues' in her native country, following her participation in the bands Luck Street Blues and later Strange Brew. In 2007, she located to Denmark and established herself as an acclaimed name within the Scandinavian jazz scene. Mandipira has studied music since childhood and is inspired by artist such as Billie Holiday, Ella Fitzgerald, Aretha Franklin, Ma Rainey, Bessie Smith, Sister Rosetta Thorpe, The Mahotella Queens and Sarah Vaughn. In 2016, she was awarded as the "Best Danish Blues Artist" by Copenhagen Blues Festival, being only the second woman to receive the award. Thorughout her career, Mandipira has collaborated with several jazz and soul artists. In 2009, she began working with Delta Blues Band and she has been a popular name at Copenhagen Jazz Festival since then. In 2013, she collaborated with saxophone artist Jakob Elvstrøm on "SoulMama", her first official recording to be released digitally. In 2014, she performed "Shades of Spring" as part of UNESCO World Day International Jazz Day, which was her first official solo album release. Months later, "Miriam Mandipira and Her Danish Friends – Live" was released as well, featuring songs such as "Amazing Grace", "What a Friend We Have in Jesus", "Emlanjeni", "I'm in the Mood for Love", "Take the A Train" and "Blues in the Night". 2015 saw the release of her most celebrated album, "Convergenc
