Michael Holm (born Lothar Walter, 29 July 1943) is a German singer, musician, songwriter, and record producer, primarily known for performing Schlager music. He first appeared in the German hit parade in 1962 with the song "Lauter schöne Worte", but achieved his first major commercial success in 1969 with "Mendocino", a German-language adaptation of a song by the Sir Douglas Quintet. Released in September 1969, the single reached number three on the German charts for five weeks and sold over one million copies, earning Holm a gold record from Ariola in October 1970. Holm continued to have chart success with songs such as "Barfuß im Regen" (1970), "Tränen lügen nicht" (1974), which was also recorded in English as "When a Child Is Born", and "Musst Du jetzt gerade gehen, Lucille" (1977). In addition to his singing career, he composed the music for the international horror film "Mark of the Devil" (1970). Outside of Germany, Holm is recognized for his work as a member of the new age band Cusco, alongside Kristian Schultze. He also collaborated artistically and maintained a personal friendship with musician and producer Giorgio Moroder, releasing several singles and an album together as a duo.
