Mexico 1910 was born in New Orleans at the beginning of 2001. They recorded a demo CD later that year and got beaucoup airplay from Tulane University's WTUL. That momentum saw them through to late ‘02 when they started work on "Sharpen Your Crutches", a 4-song EP they recorded with Jason Rhein of Rotary Downs. After hooking up with Austin-based friends in My Education they did two tours, once through the Gulf South and once to the Northeast. Finally the local press got hip to them in '03: the New Orleans Times-Picayune placed SYC in their Top Twenty Albums of the Year, and Offbeat Magazine nominated them for Best Emerging Rock Artist. Then in mid-2004, a reader's poll in Where Y'At magazine named them "Favorite Indie Rock Band"! Creative Loafing/The Weekly Planet sez "This all-instrumental New Orleans quartet plays dark, experimental soundscapes reminiscent of the heavier moments from two other vocal-less outfits, Friends of Dean Martinez (sans pedal steel) or Godspeed You! Black Emperor. Named for the chaos, anxiety and possibility of the year preceding the Mexican Revolution, the band's music reflects those primal emotions to the letter."
