In an age when music is at its most disposable and one-dimensional, Matt Ford comes as a breath of fresh air. While other artists concern themselves with imitating others, Ford is comfortable in his own skin, with a sound all his own. The influences are present and varied - Tim Buckley, Nick Cave and Dead Can Dance, to name but a few, but Ford does not let them define him. The upcoming Liverpool singer-songwriter has just unleashed his debut release, a demo written, performed and produced entirely by himself. Comprising of four darkly engaging songs, as well as evocative photography by local artist Kirsten Whittle, 'Matt Ford' is a valid statement in its own right. This is not just a run-of-the-mill demo, and Matt Ford is anything but a run-of-the-mill songwriter. On the surface, 'Matt Ford' is very dark indeed. But Matt believes in the lasting impact of music which has to be truly listened to and engaged with, as opposed to being background noise. This is when music is able to reveal its true potential, hits hardest, and stays longest in the memory. As such, there is a lot more to this release than its moody atmospheres and, frankly, morbid lyrics. "Despite the deathly imagery, the songs are as much about life as they are about death. There is a very strong, positive message in this work, for those who want to find it", Matt explains.
