Historically, it goes like this: Once there was a rock band in the town of Muncie, IN that consisted of 5 people. When that rock band broke up, one of the members (Justin Clark) felt a little confused and sad. He felt like he was still in the music making mode and refused to stop, regardless of the current status of his bandmate roomates. Thus, Material Culture was born. It started with a 5 song EP called Radio Music. This was basically a collection of old ideas for music and lyrics, all assembled together on a laptop. It sounds like electronic drums, acoustic guitars, and an offkilter attempt at signing. One of the songs off the album, Leave and Not Look Back was featured on Woodenman Record's Workman's Comp 3.5. After this came a handful of solo show, involving a looping pedal and sometimes a laptop or sampler. Along the way, another EP was in the process of being created. A tribute to a huge influence, Cap'n Jazz. With the help of longtime friend and drummer, Erick Sherman, a 5 song cover EP emerged. After all this a few more shows happened, now with the influence of Jon Rogers and sometimes drumsets, bass guitars, accordians, and dual vocals. There was an idea of a full band to perform this new full length album, but that never came to light. Sometime later, another compilation was released focusing on Noise. Included on this comp is a song called Independent Woman, a noisy cover of a song by friend Eric Alexander. Eventually, Material Culture was put on the back b
