Marzio Scholten was born on June 17th 1982 in Granollers, Spain. In 2006 he graduated cum laude at the prestigious Conservatory of Amsterdam, where Marzio has studied with Jesse van Ruller, Martijn van Iterson and Maarten van der Grinten and followed workshops by Kurt Rosenwinkel, John Scofield, Pat Martino, John Clayton, Chris Potter and many others. Marzio is the leader of his Marzio Scholten Quartet and Marzio Scholten Group, with which he’s touring regularly around the Netherlands and abroad, presenting his compositions in modern jazz. His album ‘Motherland’ was released in June 2008. Besides leading these bands Marzio plays in various other groups, and has worked with various artists as a session guitarist (live and studio work). Some of the more famous venues and festivals where he has played are Bimhuis, Vredenburg, Utrecht Jazz Fest, The Hague Jazz, Jazz in Duketown, East of Eastern Festival, Amersfoort Jazz Festival and SJU Jazzpodium.
