Marcin Stańczyk

Marcin Stańczyk was born 16 November 1977. He holds a law degree from University of Łódź (LL.M.) as well as D.M.A and Habilitation degrees in music theory and composition from Music Academy of Łódź and the title of Full Professor. He completed a three year post-graduate degree at the Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia in Rome and CURSUS 1 and 2 at Paris IRCAM. He supplemented his education within the residences at Royaumont (Voix Nouvelles), IMD Darmstadt, Aldeburgh Centre of Music, Cité des Arts. He participated in the programme of nurtuting youg composers established by the Krzysztof Penderecki European Centre of Music. He received various prizes and scholarships and was recognized by different institutions including IMD Darmstadt, SACEM, Reading Panel IRCAM, Royamount, Jerwood, Laurentscantorij Foundations. He is a double recipient of the prestigious Witold Lutosławski scholarship for composers (2011, 2013) and double Coryphaeus of Polish Music Nominee (2013, 2015, Personality of the Year), an award bestowed by the Polish music community. As a composer won over a dozen international composers competitions in Poland, France, Italy, Germany, US, Netherland, Romania, Japan and China, including prestigious Toru Takemitsu Award in Tokyo (2013) with the piece SIGHS described by the chairman Sir Harrison Birtwistle as a virtuoso piece of musical awareness.
