There are 2 bands called Manuela. 1) London-based project of vocalist and songwriter Manuela Gernedel and multi-instrumentalist Nick McCarthy (of Franz Ferdinand / FFS). “Slinky, understated dance-rock that shuffles along with echoing, escalating guitar lines and precise drums that snap with intent.” - Stereogum Austrian-born Manuela Gernedel and her British husband Nick McCarthy first moved to Glasgow when Gernedel began studying painting at the Glasgow School of Art. In that period she performed with the short-lived band White Nights, while McCarthy joined Franz Ferdinand, toured the world and sold millions of records. Together with friend Alexander Ragnew, they later created Box Codax, releasing *Only An Orchard Away* (2006) and *Hellabuster* (2011). Manuela perform both as a duo and as a five-piece band. Their self-titled debut album – a joyous gem of addictive, eclectic, off-the-wall and instantly refreshing DIY pop – was released on Lost Map Records (in cooperation with Schamoni Musik, Munich and Panoram, Mexico) on 31 March 2017. The record features friends old and new, including Jim Dixon (Django Django), William Reese (Mystery Jets), Roxanne Clifford (Veronica Falls) and Paul Thomson (Franz Ferdinand). Its first single, “Cracks in the Concrete,” premiered on Stereogum and was subsequently shared by Pitchfork, NME, Brooklyn Vegan and Consequence of Sound.
