Magister Gauterius de Castello Rainardi (fl. 12th century) is known today through a small group of attributed polyphonic items preserved in the Codex Calixtinus (E-SC s.s.), the celebrated Santiago de Compostela manuscript of the Liber Sancti Iacobi. Modern cataloguing sources credit him with pieces such as Regi perhennis gloriae (fols. 187–187v), alongside Cunctipotens genitor Deus and Benedicamus Domino, placing him among the named “magistri” whose music survives in the earliest strata of Iberian/“Aquitanian” polyphony transmitted for the cult of St James.
