The music of composer Luna Pearl Woolf, (b. 1973 Massachusetts) has been praised for its “psychological nuances and emotional depth,” by the New York Times. Her works in opera, dramatic chamber music, silent film and music-storytelling have been commissioned by Carnegie Hall, Washington National Opera, Minnesota Sinfonia, Salle Bourgie, ECM+, as well as individual artists and festivals, collaborating with artists such as Joyce DiDonato, Frederica von Stade, Daniel Taylor, Christopher O’Riley, the Brentano String Quartet, and the Russian National Orchestra, as well as Academy Award-winner Jeremy Irons and author Cornelia Funke. Recent projects include a 30-minute work of theatrical chamber music commissioned by percussionist Krystina Marcoux for a Banff Center workshop and Montreal premiere. Opera director Brian Staufenbiel collaborates on this dramatic, wordless opera about the surprising revelations of love. Suspense, music for the 1913 ground-breaking short silent film by Lois Weber, scored for 8 cellos and 4 percussionists, premiered by Uccello and the McGill Percussion Ensemble on April 3, 2013 in Montreal. Soprano Lisa Delan has commissioned two works for soprano, cello and piano, the most recent, Rumi: Quatrains of Love, released on PentaTone Classics.
