Luiz Americano (1900-1960) was a brazilian virtuoso of clarinet and one of the most relevant composers from the gender choro. Son of band conductor Jorge Americano, Luiz learned the clarinet and the saxophone at an early age. After been a musician in the Brazilian Army for a short period, he became a professional musician, playing in the most important Rio de Janeiro orchestras of those times. In 1936, Luiz formed Trio Carioca with Radamés Gnattali (piano) and Luciano Perrone (drums), to adapt american standards to the choro style. After a intense activity in the brazilian music of his time, in 1950, Americano joined Rádio Nacional as a supporting musician with its varied ensembles and orchestras. There he worked and composed until his death in 1960, at 60 yeas old of age. User-contributed text is available under the Creative Commons By-SA License; additional terms may apply.
