The ensemble was founded in 1963.It is devoted to authentic and at the same time vivid interpretation of music from the 13th to the 16th century. The performances are based on research into performance practice and instrumentation with reference to the current work of distinguished musicologists, instrument collectors and restorers. The various historical instruments used by the ensemble are partly original instruments, partly constructed in the workshop of the group or by instrument makers according to particular instruction. Some programs which include narration and scenic action have been especially popular with audiences around the world. The troup consists of four to ten singers and instrumentalists. About seventy historical instruments are at the groups disposal. In addition to their concert appearances, they are often invited to give lectures and masterclasses User-contributed text is available under the Creative Commons By-SA License; additional terms may apply.
