Kongar Ondar, Cyrillic: Коңар-өл Ондар; born in 1962 near the Khemchik River in western Tuva) is a master throat singer from Tuva. He has been a member of the Tuva Ensemble. Member of the Tuvan Parliament, considered a living treasure by the Republic of Tuva, Ondar is granted a stipend and an apartment for the musical skills he possesses. Jovial and personable, Ondar is probably the best-known face of Хөөмей (khoomei) throat singing to Westerners, appearing often in interviews for CNN and other networks. He died after emergency surgery for a brain hemorrhage in Kyzyl on July 25, 2013. He was 51 years old.
