about

Johannus Franchois de Gembloux (fl.Early Fifteenth Century) was a Franco-Flemish composer. A chaplain at the Burgundian court in the early fifteenth century unlike many of his Franco-Flemish contemporaries he stayed in his native land rather than seeking his fortune in Italy. His style in some ways marks the transition between those of the late fourteenth century and early fifteenth century; one of his isorhythmic motets opens with an unusual and impressive trumpet-like introductory passage, and the popularity of two of his Gloria/Credo pairs is attested by their appearance in several different sources. He also composed chansons, and is represented by one piece in the Buxheim Organ Book. User-contributed text is available under the Creative Commons By-SA License; additional terms may apply.
