Artist
Johann Valentin Strobel (baptised 16 Nov 1643 in Strasbourg; buried 30 Aug 1688 in Darmstadt) was a German court lutenist from the Strobel dynasty—grandson of Valentin Strobel the Elder and son of Valentin Strobel (bap. 1611–after 1669). He was active at the Darmstadt court from 1668, and his standing there included teaching: MGG records him as the lute instructor of Ernst Ludwig, Landgrave of Hesse-Darmstadt. As a composer/source figure, RISM preserves a concrete autograph witness under his name: Preludes (cembalo) in A major in D-DS Mus.ms 17.
