Joscelin (Jocelin) of Soissons (d. 1152), bishop of Soissons from late 1126, appears in early-music catalogues because the Codex Calixtinus transmits two polyphonic items under the attribution “Magister Goslenus episcopus Suesionensis”: Gratulantes celebremus festum (fol. 185v) and Alleluia. Vocavit Jesus Jacobum Zebedei (fols. 189v–190). Modern authority control and reference usage often identify Magister Goslenus episcopus Suessionis with Joscelin/Joscelin de Vierzy, but scholarship has also warned that some Codex Calixtinus composer ascriptions may be unreliable, so these works are best described as manuscript-attributed to the bishop-name rather than incontrovertibly authored by him.
