Jo Freya (born Jo Fraser on 4 December 1960) is an English folk singer, multi-instrumentalist (soprano and tenor sax, clarinets, traditional whistles), and composer. She was Artistic Director of the Nation Youth Folk Ensemble from 2023 to 2026. Fraser changed her name to Jo Freya as a condition of joining the actors' union Equity, which does not allow two of its members to share the same name. She performs mainly folk music and world music and is part of the bands Blowzabella, Old Swan Band and Token Women, as well as performing with Lal Waterson, Pete Morton. She also performs as part of a nameless supergroup consisting of Coope, Boyes & Simpson, Fi Fraser , Georgina Boyes and herself. Her European group Freyja has issued two CDs. Her solo albums include: Traditional Songs of England (1993), Lush (1996), Tea With The Queen (1998), As The Last Night Drains (2003). Lal (A tribute to Lal Waterson's music, 2007), and Female Smuggler (2008). Her compilations and collaborations include: Migrating Bird - The Songs of Lal Waterson (2007).
