Artist
Jenn Friedman is a self-taught musician from Brooklyn, NY., playing and singing music since she was five years of age. Jenn's melodies are strong and memorable, often sung by others long after listening. The melodies move very naturally, and run the gamut from strong but simple to choppy to melancholy and back. At the root of her music is a need to communicate on a most basic, telling level. She is purposely creating a ground that messes with boundaries a little bit, forcing people to look more closely at themselves and others, She believes that there is magic in the very mystery of music. There is magic in knowing its message doesn't have to be direct; that imagery and melody can create a concept and narrate a story individual to each person present. Jenn's voice is intimate, genuine, earthy. Songs like "Wilted" bring out the high, flowing notes, and songs such as "Captain" are closer to the ground. The piano is a central part to all of Jenn's music. By now, it has become her second voice. Her piano arrangements and vocal lines hold each other up like an old married couple and they're very happy that way! Jenn has a sharp, carefully sculpted sense of harmony. With it, her vocals create an elegant balance of rich undertones and floaty, airy harmonies. These vocal harmonies gracefully carry the listener from one point of a song into another. Jenn grew up in a Brooklyn apartment with her parents and is now attending Purchase College in Westchester as a Studio Composition
