Artist
This petite Melbourne born songstress began her musical journey from a young age, expressing herself using recorder, flute, guitar, piano, kazoo and vocals. A little bit cutting- edge, Jem took her folky tones to community events, recitals and eisteddfods. Her refusal to sing standard pop songs whilst showing her midriff, or changing the lyrics to a Beatles tune to make it more politically correct, made it clear that making a living from winning community eisteddfods was a dream needing to die. So she kept writing. Jem dove herself into music...and learnt to swim. She recorded her first E.P in December 2009, called 'Bird Song', which has been very well received both live and though internet access. Jem continues to write new material developing herself as an artist and perfecting her craft. The song writing comes from experiencing life, expressed with relatable lyrics and warming tunes. She takes what is too confronting to admit with words alone and creates a melody to go hand in hand with it. 'I give you my heart and you give me nothin'... because everything always sounds better when it's sung in a song. You'll find Jem's songs painting pictures with analogies. You'll understanding her love of writing about everyday life and everyday things. Her clever lyrics and catchy melody will leave you humming long after the track is over. You'll understand the songs...because you probably have experienced the same thing. User-contributed text is available under the Creative
