Artist
Jay Pea crafts infectious folk-rock ballads that reveal his distinctive, soulful and breathy voice. His disarmingly catchy melodies are both poignant and cheerful, an addictive mix of campfire confessionals and summery grooves. Before entering college, Jay Pea took off to San Francisco with his brother and ended up a year later in Maple Creek, Saskatchewan, where he was greeted by a cowboy family who taught him the basics of country gospel, lasso throwing and grueling farm work. Upon his return in Montreal the following year, Jay Pea hooked up with fellow college classmates and formed the rock outfit Litost. When the band broke up three years later, he started focusing on his own folk-rock compositions and assembled a first-class support band that includes back-up vocalist M.-C. Fafard, bassist and album producer Guillaume Chartrain (M. Mono), drummer Marc Chartrain (Les Chiens), and New York Guitarist Alan Biller. Jay Pea's debut EP, Tower of Slow, has drawn many fans and attracted considerable attention from the music industry. The songs are inspired by Jay Pea's journeys across the Americas and by his personal meditations about love's many twists and turns.
