Propulsive and angular, Ottawa/Hull’s J'envoie bring a muscular, joyful approach to instrumental rock. Drawing heavily from jazz, math rock, and dub, the quartet packs a myriad of musical ideas into their songs, resulting in twisting, angular journeys over dynamic songshapes. Having played together for a number of years, Patrick Sénécal (drums, percussion) and Pierluc Clément (guitar, piano) recorded a demo in 2003 with multiinstrumentalist Olivier Fairfield (Rhodes, organ, piano, percussion). It reached Christian Richer (Élément Kuuda), who joined on guitar and keys, and Nathan Medema (bass, percussion), completing the line-up. J’envoie began playing out from their Hull, Québec base in early 2004; in 2005, Christian relocated to Montréal, and the remaining members continued as a quartet. Since 2004 the fervour and unpredictability of J’envoie’s live performances have garnered the band a reputation in the Outaouais. Over the course of two years, the band took its time in the studio carefully recording an EP of material that was released January 2008. The band is now composed of Patrick Sénécal (drums), Pierluc Clément (guitar, percussion), Olivier Fairfield (Rhodes, organ, piano, percussion) and Philippe Charbonneau (bass). A new LP will come out in a 12" 180g vinyl format in late summer / early fall 2009. The band will continue to play shows to promote the LP.
