Artist
Yujiro Ishihara (石原裕次郎; Ishihara Yūjirō, December 28, 1934–July 17, 1987) was a Japanese actor and (enka) singer born in Kobe. His elder brother, Shintaro Ishihara, is an author, politician, and the current Governor of Tokyo. Yujiro debuted in 1956 in "Season of the Sun," based on a novel written by his brother. As a representative youth star in films of the immediate postwar, and subsequently as a macho movie hero, he was beloved by many fans, who extravagantly mourned his early death at 52. His Filmographies and discographies are still alive among the Showa-period lovers. At the date of his early death, 17th July (1987), the mourning ceremony is often broadcasted on TV. He died on July 17th, 1987 from liver cancer. User-contributed text is available under the Creative Commons By-SA License; additional terms may apply.
