about

The Hotcha Trio was a Dutch harmonica trio from Rotterdam, The Netherlands, active from the mid-1930s until its dissolution around 1970. The peak of their fame was in the 1950s. Initially called The 5 Hotchas, the group consisted of Geert van Driesten (bass), Joop Heijman (solo), Eddie Sernee and the brothers Cor and Wim Belder. They toured Europe in 1939. Van Driesten left the band in 1941 and was replaced by Johan Janssen. They continued touring Scandinavia and Germany and were featured in a German movie. The group's years as a quintet ended in 1949. They carried on as a three-piece named the Hotcha Trio, initially with Van Driesten, Sernee and Heijman. Henk van Dipte replaced Van Driesten on bass, and this marked the start of the trio's most successful period. Van Dipte was replaced by Lee Kuipers on bass. Kuipers in his turn was replaced by Gijs van der Wiel. Jan Vuik joined in 1954. The group dissolved around 1970.
