Hee Young (희영) is a Brooklyn-based singer-songwriter whose music originates from the US. Currently releasing her music as an indie artist under Pastelmusic. Her self-released debut EP 'So Sudden' contains seven songs, five in English and two re-recorded in Korean. Hee Young’s first full-length record ‘4 Luv’ (Produced by Saul Simon MacWilliams) was released in the spring of 2012. The album is a mixture of American-influenced indie acoustic rock that translates to Korean indie music in excellent ways. Born in a small seaside town to a singer mother and a composer father, Hee Young grew up in Seoul, South Korea. At age sixteen, she left home to fulfill the American Dream, but after a year spent in a middle of nowhere town in South Georgia in the land of endless cotton fields, she found herself alone with no high speed Internet or a television and no close friends and family, but an old piano and a slight Southern accent. That’s when she started speaking the language of loneliness and unrequited love and matching them to her own melodies. The majority of her music is sung in English with three of the thirteen songs translated and re-sung in Korean. Essentially, 4 Luv is an American release for South Korea. But at the same time, Hee Young is bringing a different style of music into the ears of Korean listeners who will probably start to be influenced by it.
