“It is a dream that sounds like the sea.” Add a drop of despair, a touch of vulnerability, and a hint of hope, and you will find the unique sound that is Happily Ever After. Self-proclaimed promoters of melancholy, Happily Ever After has been part of the underground Norwegian music scene for more than ten years. Although the band has appeared and reappeared in different shapes and sizes throughout this period, it is in its current form that the band has finally found its niche. This pure melancholy from the far north is the result of a ten year working relationship between guitarist/vocalist Tommy Aashildrød and vocalist Janne Skalleberg, combined with the classic scholarly of pianist Marius Thoresen and the jazz influence of string bass player Jon Mikkel Broch Aalvik. Being based in Oslo, Norway, the band has released two previous albums on their own label, I Feel Fine Records. The first album One Hour Until Dawn was released in early 2001 and sold 300 copies straight out of Tommy's backpack. Of the current members only Tommy and Janne featured on the album. They were joined by drummer Roger Jacobsen, keyboardist Kristian Reppesgaard and bassist Rudi Simmons. The current members of the band have been playing together since 2003 and the second album A Dream of Dark Dreams, released in 2005, sold the total printed 500 copies. Guitarist Tommy Aashildrød (34) has previously played in Norwegian bands Bath, New Day and Lilacs. He was the initiator of the Happily Ever After
