Created in 2001 in a garage by Andrew Capra and Chase Ottney the summer before high school began. At first the band was just a garage band recording on 4-tracks (released "Abandoned", a 4 song demo) but a year later their first legitimate show was a county Battle Of The Bands. The band took first prize and started to become serious. Eventually Chase left, and Geoff Peters and Hugh Hunter were added on drums and bass respectively. A 4-track demo was recorded @ PopSmear Studios in San Rafael, CA titled "The Day After Never EP". This caught the eye of owner Scott Llamas, who brought them back to record 2 more tracks in the winter. By March 2003 the 16-year-old band had inked a deal with local indie PopSmear Records and released their first full length Anthem Of The Seasons in June. The album featured lush textures and a very intimate feel. The single "Better Than That" was a featured track on the first NorCal Compilation put out by Agent Record. In Summer 2003 Halfway did a promotional tour for the album across the state, as well as playing the JoshuaFest Festival. The band had officially picked up touring friend Adam Bialik from the funk/pop outfit On Lisa for guitar/background vocal duties for that tour and he became a permanent member. Starting in January 2004 the band began preproduction for their second full length effort, and tracking began that March.
