Formed in January 2009, Heavy Road is Greg Merritt (vocals and guitar), Ron Thaler (drums), Arthur Sadowski (bass), and Peter Remm (keyboards) and they are a band in the truest sense of the word. Brought together by their collective desire to jam and set the world on fire, the four have come together to create an upbeat funky original sound that gets the crowd moving with extended jams and improvisations that few other jam bands can equal. Background on the members: Greg Merritt along with Alex Garay, Dave Migliore and Keith Giordano founded the 90s psychedelic band Amorphous. Dave and Alex went on to form Catbootz, and later the jam scene phenomenon Buzzuniverse. Greg Merritt went on to form the band Good Friend with drummer Dan DeRienzo and bassist Rob Smith. The first release was the 7" vinyl record Out There/River, which received airplay at over 70 college radio stations around the country in 1995. Building on this success, Good Friend's debut CD Best Friend released in 1999 received airplay on over 250 college stations reaching number one on over a dozen stations. Merritt's CD Dream Through A Leaf debuted at 21 on the jambands.com radio chart in Spring of '08. Ron Thaler is one of the most in-demand drummers, record producers, and drum clinicians in music today. His work has garnered 20 Grammy nominations over the past two years and has worked closely with Alicia Keys, Willie Nelson, Dweezil Zappa, Rob Thomas, Al DiMeola, Mike Stern, and many more.
