Three of the four members of GBVO all met on University of Michigan’s college campus. Latvian guitarist Arnold Lelis, bass player Randall Winchester, and songwriter-vocalist Link Yaco all ended up working at MIT where they added drummer Steve “Soapy” Campbell to the group. After drinking away Friday afternoons at the Thirsty Ear pub, they would then retire to one of their tiny apartments, and record on a 4-track. Musical influences are avante rockers such as Robert Fripp, Syd Barrett, the group Wire, and serious new composers, especially the tonalists.
