Gonçalo Gato was born in 1979 in Lisbon, Portugal. Master in Composition (supervised by professors Christopher Bochmann and Carlos Caires) by the Universidade de Évora (2010). Initially, studied composition with Eurico Carrapatoso and then, in 2008, he graduated from the Escola Superior de Música de Lisboa where he studied with Luís Tinoco, Carlos Caires, João Madureira and Sérgio Azevedo. Gonçalo also graduated in Chemistry before devoting himself to music. He is now active as one of the directors of the recently formed Nova Orquestra de Lisboa. Other activities include playing guitar in a contemporary jazz project. Gonçalo has been developing an activity as a teacher of music in various portuguese institutions like the Faculdade de Ciências Sociais e Humanas (FCSH) of the New University of Lisbon, the Academia de Amadores de Música of Lisbon and the Escola Profissional de Imagem (EPI-ETIC).
