Giordano Passetto , also Pasetto or Frater Jordanus Pasetus (* around 1484 in Venice ; β November 8, 1557 in Padua) was an Italian composer , organist and conductor of the Renaissance. Giordano Passetto's exact date of birth has not yet been found by musicological research; no information has survived about his early days or his education either. He was a friar of the Dominican order in the Venetian monastery of SS. Giovanni e Paolo ; Petrus Castellanus , the editor of the printer Ottaviano Petrucci , also worked here at the time as magister capellae . Ferrara's ambassador in Venice sent a composed Credo Passettos to Duke Ercole d'Este in 1504to Ferrara, with the remark that "he was very talented in these things". The remaining parts of the Mirabile zovene fair followed shortly thereafter . In 1505 the composer worked as an organist in the convent of Santo Spirito in Venice. He was organist at SS. Giovanni e Paolo from 1509 to 1520. From that year until shortly before his death he held the position of Kapellmeister at Padua Cathedral. The compositions of Giordano Passetto are mostly written for male voices. He also dedicated a book of madrigals , printed in 1541 , to the canon at Padua Cathedral, Benedetto Contarini . This is the only sixteenth-century print of secular vocal music written exclusively for equal voices. The madrigals are written in a flowing, homophonic style, with occasional brief two-part imitations . A four-part villotta , also scored for low voices, also
