Gülben Ergen was born on 25 August 1972 in Kadıköy, Istanbul, Turkey. She completed her secondary education at Erenköy Girls’ High School and later graduated from Kadıköy Business High School. At age sixteen, she participated in the “Cinema Star” competition organized by the Hürriyet newspaper and won second place, which introduced her to the worlds of modeling and acting. She made her film debut in 1988 with Biz Ayrılamayız. In the same year, she appeared in Deniz Yıldızı, and later in films such as Av and Kanun Savaşçıları. In the mid-1990s, she worked at the Maksim Casino as part of İbrahim Tatlıses’s program and appeared in his music video “Haydi Söyle”. She also took part in his television series Fırat. Ergen began her music career in 1997 with her first studio album, Merhaba. The album included several music videos, helping her gain recognition as a singer. In 1999, she released her second album, Kör Aşık, collaborating with prominent Turkish composers and lyricists. At the same time, she hosted the television program Gümbür Gümbür Gülbence and starred in the TV series Marziye between 1998 and 2001. Her career reached a new milestone in 2001 when she played the lead role in the popular TV series Dadı, the Turkish adaptation of The Nanny. Her performance earned her the Golden Butterfly Award for Best Actress. In the same year, she founded the magazine Gülbence.
