Göteborgsmusiken traces its history to 1905 when enthusiast tram workers started a brass sixtet. Later it became Spårvägens Musikkår (the Tram Music Corps). It was organised to its present form in 1992 when it was established as a musical institution with 26 full time musicians, an artistic leader and administration. Since 1998 they are working in the 17th century building of Kronhuset "within the moat" of old central Göteborg. In 1997 the orchestra was given the status as Swedish Airforce Music Corps with additional funding. Göteborgsmusiken performs original performances of new works, classical reportoirs, entertainment with jazz, musical and traditional songs and collaborates frequently with popular artists. Thay also perform for children and at military events in the Air Force uniforms. In the summer of 2007 the orchestra changed its name to Göteborg Wind Orchestra to get a more informative and internationally working name. Their first performance under this name will be the 17 of august at Götaplatsen in central Göteborg.
