Göteborgs Gosskör (the Gothenburg Boys' Choir) was founded 1962 at the Gothenburg Cathedral in Sweden. Since 1997, the Choir has functioned as an autonomous choral society, no longer associated with the Cathedral, but continuing to perform in the classical and liturgical choral tradition. The choir numbers some 70 boys and young men, 7-25 years of age. It is the second largest boys' choir in Sweden. The Choir has performed widely throughout Europe and overseas. It has performed and recorded in collaboration with the Swedish National Symphony Orchestra and with the Gothenburg Opera House. Numerous national broadcasts and concerts in Sweden have been made the last few years. The boys usually enter the choir at the age of seven or eight, with rehearsals two days a week. They are taught to read music, voice production, music history and good self-discipline. At the age of ten or eleven the best voices are accepted into the Concert Choir, while the other boys go to the Chamber Choir for extensive training. During the fall of the voice, at the age of 13-15, the boys train separately in a group in order to know their new deeper voices. After one or two years they might enter the Chamber Choir as tenors or basses, and, if the voice is good enough, they apply for a position in the Concert Choir again. The artistic director since 2001 is Ms Maria Forsström, a native of Gothenburg. User-contributed text is available under the Creative Commons By-SA License; additional terms may app
