about

Founded in 2016 in San José, Costa Rica, Fractal Sun is a progressive metal band that blends modern djent, symphonic elements, and technical compositions. The group was established by guitarists Johnny and Isabel Víquez, who later rounded out the lineup with vocalist Hellen Quirós, bassist Santiago Mejía, and drummer Sunfyre. The band is best known for its immersive science-fiction concept, which follows a scientist named Orianna as she flees a dying Earth aboard a spacecraft called "The Dark Project." This narrative began with their 2020 debut album, Turmoil, and has since been expanded through a series of singles, including "ARES" (2023), "Trail of Hope" (2025), and "Trail of Pain" (2026). Their sound draws inspiration from genre giants such as Animals as Leaders, Haken, Tesseract, and Nightwish. Fractal Sun has rapidly gained international traction, recently performing alongside the band Obscura and appearing on the prestigious 70000 Tons of Metal cruise in 2025.
