Espen Berg, born June 30th 1983 in Hamar, is a Norwegian pianist and composer. He currently resides in Trondheim, where he attained a master’s degree after studying at the University of Science and Technology’s highly acknowledged jazz department. Currently, Espen’s main projects include his solo project, Espen Berg Trio, Trondheim Jazz Orchestra with Marius Neset and Kåre Kolve Quartet. Espen has travelled around the world playing concerts in all parts of Norway, Cuba, Syria, Spain, France, Belgium, USA, Sweden, Denmark, the Faroe Islands, Hungary, among other places. He has participated on several CD productions, and worked with artists such as Trondheim Jazzorkester, Marius Neset, Per Jørgensen, Susanne Lundeng, Cantus, Tore Johansen, Mambo Compañeros, Ragnhild Faanes Quartet, Luftforsvarets Musikkorps, Ungdomssymfonikerne, Jovan Pavlovic, Amer Dahbar, Maher Mahmoud, Sissel Kyrkjebø, Darryl Tookes, Grete Storbæk Eriksen, among others. Espen has also written music for the Grammy nominated Trondheim Soloists, Cikada String Quartet and Quintus. In 2007 he was awarded the prize for being the best soloist at Hoeilaart International Jazz Contest in Belgium, and he was nominated for the annual solo jazz piano competition at Montreux Jazz Festival in both 2012 and 2013. Espen has been lecturing at the university in Trondheim and Trøndertun college since 2005, in addition to a high number of private students.
