The "Empirica" project came into being in March 2002 as the result of a fortuitous meeting in Florence between Davide Pepe (voice and guitar) and Vito Taccogna (drums). Both artists, once back in Bari, their city of origin, began to create that artistic feeling which is at the core of every band that believes in what it is doing. The basic set-up of the group is rock and this is the sound of the project which saw a number of changes in the back-line during the formative period. The true artistic direction of the band was established when Vito Decarolis (guitar) and Gianluca Calisti (bass) became a permanent part of the definitive line-up. In 2003, Empirica played live in Rome (Qube) in a session with Litfiba and, in the same year, were finalists in the "Emergency" and "A Voice from the South" contests. In 2004, after numerous concerts in the south of Italy, they were the opening band at Litfiba’s final concert after three years of touring, in Salerno. In 2005, Empirica won the "Nomadism Sessions Contest 2005" and the contest run by Bari's ARCI association: "Fatti Sentire!" They also played at the presentation of Litfiba's 2006 tour (organised by the Litfiba Fan Club). "Our way of playing rock is contaminated by the artistic influence of each member of the group.
