Artist
Doctor by day, composer by night.... Dr Elliott Cheng is a london-based classically trained multi-instrumentalist who uses a variety of instruments to create soundscapes that span a whole plethora of genres. These include jazz, electronica, ambient, progressive rock, metal, post rock, drum n' bass and classical. He plays drums, guitars, pianos, synths, viola, glockenspiel, mandolin, percussion, cello, bass, saxophone, flute, melodica, vibraphone and vocals, combined with electronic gadgets that enable him to create live representations of effects normally reserved for post-production. This way of recording forces a very live feel to his work. His debut release 'Scared Of A Blank Page,' is a conceptual album based on a narrative driven by the subjects of progression, mirroring and layers. It combines the compositional nature of progressive rock, the instrumentation of classical music, the production and style of jazz and the orchestration of electronica music. All with the simple underlying brief of introducing jazz to those who like electronica, electronica to those who like rock and rock to those who like jazz. It has been said to be a mix between The Cinematic Orchestra, Bonobo, Ludovico Einaudi, King Crimson, Jaga Jazzist, Boards Of Canada and Radiohead.
