Egotism is an experimental rock band from Ohio. The band originated in 2009 from the remnants of the punk band Disarray as an experimental noise punk band with the name Syphilis. After a few disastrous outings the band was shrunk down to the in studio project Egotism, consisting of Curt Liston on rhythm and Alek Nielsen on guitars. The band is influenced by electronic, jazz, and post-rock music. Selections from the Syphilis material were quickly recorded on the short demo Pepsi. After many months of recording the atmospheric EP Interregnum, incorporating elements of industrial, tribal, and classical music into a disturbing and paranoid sound, was released in July of 2010. In the Fall of the same year the band reconvened and wrote Not at All, released the following Summer in 2011. The album was much more improvised and dissonant, and was made up almost entirely of instrumental music.
