Danny Lukassen (born Amsterdam, The Netherlands, 05 May 1971) is a Dutch vocalist and entertainer who recorded several albums since 1991, but is primarily known for his 1995 smash hit Ajax Is Kampioen, a steaming party tune that was heard all around Amsterdam during the glorious UEFA Champions League campaign of AFC Ajax football club. The melody for 'Ajax Is Kampioen' already existed: it is the melody of Malle Babbe, a song written by legendary Dutch singer/songwriter Boudewijn de Groot, with lyrics by Lennaert Nijgh and made famous by singer Rob de Nijs in 1973. Danny Lukassen and his crew simply added a pumping 'euro techno' dance beat and wrote new lyrics. The song inevitably became a smash hit as AFC Ajax won the UEFA Champions League in 1995. An estimated 250,000 Ajax supporters bounced up and down to the tune in Amsterdam's Museumplein, during Ajax's official Champions League celebrations. The song is still played during Ajax celebrations and public trophy presentations. Lukassen recorded another album full of Ajax songs in 1996. Lukassen has since moved on. He has released albums of non-football songs, but when Ajax returned to European glory in 2017 and 2019 he released slightly altered versions of 'Ajax is kampioen'.
