Singer Cormac Kenevey was born in Dublin and was introduced to jazz at a very early age by his pianist father. He took early influence from recordings of Mel Torme, Peggy Lee, Weather Report, The Crusaders and Frank Sinatra amongst others. Cormac began studying classical clarinet at the age of 12 and subsequently was involved in many ensembles as a clarinettist including the Royal Irish Academy of Music Symphony Orchestra. At University (while taking a degree in geography and archaeology) he became director and conductor of the UCD concert band. As a teenager he played drums and sang with the Dublin pop/rock band Milestone. Cormac spent two years studying jazz vocals in Munich with New York voice coach Allison Welles. At the age of 25 he decided to follow his heart and pack in the day job to become a professional jazz singer and record his debut album This Is Living which will be released on CANDID records in June. Kenevey performs regularly across Ireland and the UK captivating audiences with his unique blend of melodic phrasing and rhythmic ability. In 2005 he performed with this trio at the Cork Jazz Festival, Bray Jazz Festival, Wexford Festival, Marbella Festival (Spain) and many more venues across Ireland.
